Ghana winger, Ernest Nuamah, may miss the Black Stars’ first two matches in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers next month due to an injury.

Nuamah sustained the injury during Olympique Lyon’s home match against AS Monaco in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday.

He was substituted in the 18th minute by Georges Mikautadze after picking up the injury.

Following Nuamah’s exit, Lyon went on to lose the match 2-0, leaving them at the bottom of the league table with no points.

The full extent of Nuamah’s injury has yet to be determined, but the 23-year-old is likely to be sidelined for Ghana’s upcoming matches against Angola and Niger in September.

The Black Stars are set to face Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5 before traveling to Niger for their second qualifier on September 9.

As revealed by Footballghana.com, head coach Otto Addo has already submitted his squad for the first two qualifiers to the Executive Council of Ghana’s football governing body.

Meanwhile, there are no players from the Ghana Premier League included in the squad, as exclusively revealed by Footballghana.com.

Addo is expected to field a strong team for these crucial matches as Ghana aims to secure qualification for the tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco next year.

The Black Stars are looking to build on their recent success, having secured back-to-back wins against Mali and the Central African Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June.
