Eddie Nketiah scores as Crystal Palace edge past QPR in EFL Cup

England-born Ghanaian forward Eddie Nketiah played a key role in Crystal Palace’s 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers (QPR) in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

Nketiah, who recently joined Crystal Palace from Arsenal, was named in the starting lineup for the Round Three encounter of the 2024/25 EFL Cup. Playing as part of a three-man attack, he wasted no time in making an impact.

The forward opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a fine strike, giving Crystal Palace an early lead at Loftus Road. The Eagles maintained their advantage heading into halftime.

In the second half, QPR came out strong and leveled the match with a strike from Sam Field. Despite the equalizer, Palace regained control as Eberechi Eze struck in the 64th minute, restoring the lead for the visitors.

Crystal Palace held on to their 2-1 advantage, securing a spot in the fourth round of the EFL Cup. Late in added time, Ghana’s Jeffrey Schlupp made a cameo appearance, replacing Daichi Kamada to help run down the clock and see out the victory.
