ECG Power Queens Club donates to Akosombo Dam spillage victims


The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Power Queens Club, has extended support to some residents displaced by the Akosombo Dam spillage in the Volta Region.

The National executives led by the President, Queen Doreen Gyabi presented relief and assorted items worth GHc65,000 to displaced residents being housed at the Fodzoku Basic School camp and Dorfor Adidome Basic School Camp in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The ECG Power Queens Club, an association made up of female workers of the power distribution company aims to promote gender inclusion and address social injustice.

The Power Queens Club which celebrated its 35th Anniversary in September this year donated 2100 bags of sachet water, Baby diapers, sanitary pads, 4 bags of gari, 3 bags of corn dough, 5 bags of beans, Kivo Pepper, 8 bags of Akple Powder, 2 bags of salt, 2 bags of cassava dough, Yam, 3 Boxes of Tin Tomatoes, 3 bags of Kokonte, Fish, 50 mattresses, Toiletries, Mosquito nets and 2 bags of Tom Brown as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.

According to the National Power Queens Club President, Queen Doreen Gyabi, the Power Queens Club has been organizing programs geared towards development and improving the welfare of every individual.

“When we heard and even saw the ravaging effects of the Akosombo Dam spillage on livelihoods and properties, we were very sad and today we are here to empathize with all of you and assure you that we stand with you”, she said.

“These items cannot be compared to what all of you have lost but we hope it goes a long way to make an impact and that God continue to watch over you and replenish everything you lost “, she added.

Mrs Gyabi further indicated that ECG as a company is committed to delivering quality, reliable and safe electricity services to support the socioeconomic growth of the country.

“Improving the livelihoods of our cherished customers through stable power supply or any other means of support is part of our operations, hence this kind gesture of our club to alleviate the plight of our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers and children”, she said.

Mrs. Gyabi seized the opportunity to advice the general public to take advantage of the company’s ongoing revenue mobilization exercise dubbed “Operation Fix the Bill/Pay the Bill” to correct all anomalies and also pay their bills through the ECG PowerApp or shortcode *226# to enable the company gather enough revenue to sustain the electricity supply chain.

Receiving the items on behalf of the affected victims, the District Chief Executive of the North Tongu District Assembly, Hon. Osborne Fenu, thanked the ECG Power Queens for the show of love in these trying times. He further commended the company for swiftly restoring power supply to affected areas after the Sogakope Bulk Supply Point was shut down due to the Akosombo Dam Spillage.

“I would like to use this opportunity to call on other organizations to emulate this humanitarian act by the ECG Power Queens Club to ensure all affected communities receive help and not only Mepe since there are 15 safe havens and 69 affected communities within the North Tongu District.

The chiefs and elders of Fodzoku and Dufor Adidome expressed their profound gratitude to the ECG Power Queens.
