Michael Collins Ajereh, born November 26, 1982, professionally known as Don Jazzy, is a Nigerian record producer, audio engineer, singer, record executive and entrepreneur.

Don Jazzy was born in Umuahia, Abia State, but hails from Isoko, Delta State. He started showing interest in music at the age of 12.

He is the founder of Mavins Record, a popular Nigerian record label.

Early Life and Education

Don Jazzy hails from Isoko, Delta State, born in Umuahia, Abia State. He relocated with his family to Ajegunle, Lagos State, where he grew up.

He attended co-educational high school, Federal Government College Lagos.

Don Jazzy got admitted into Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state, where he studied Business Management.

Career

Don Jazzy fell in love with music at an early stage when he was 12, despite the difficulties he faced while growing up.

He started by playing the bass guitar and piano and gained knowledge of traditional and percussion instruments.

Don Jazzy’s uncle invited him to play drums for a local church in London in 2000, which was his first visit to London.

He gained employment at McDonald’s as a security guard in order to raise money to fund his music career.

He has worked with Solek, JJC Skillz, Kas, Jesse Jagz, The 419 Squad and D’Banj.

Don Jazzy collaborated with D’Banj to form Mo’ Hits Records in 2004, and was known for his introduction “It’s Don Jazzy Again!”

Kanye West employed Don Jazzy as a producer at Very Good Beatz. Don Jazzy teamed up with Jay-Z and Kanye West on the production of Lift Off, alongside Beyoncé on the album Watch The Throne which was released in August 2011.
