Deplorable roads driving away tourists

The management of the Boti Water Falls in the Yilo Krobo Municipality has raised concerns about the deplorable nature of roads from the Eastern Regional capital in Koforidua to Boti, which they say is scaring away tourists from patronizing the attraction site.

Transport operators in Accra and other major cities consistently decline to transport tourists who want to visit Boti Falls due to the deplorable state of the road—a situation management says is having a negative impact on tourism in the region.

The Managing Director of Boti Water Falls, Richard Kilson, expressed concern about the negligence by successive governments to get the Boti Falls roads fixed once and for all. He said the facility may not achieve its target come December when a number of tourists from the diaspora are expected to visit Ghana as part of the Beyond the Return initiative by the Ghana Tourism Authority.

He told Citi News in an interview, “Our road is so bad. We’ve been talking about it for over seven years, and it has gone from bad to worse. All the little efforts that we had made to repair it have gone to waste. For now, we just hope and pray.”

He added, “Eastern region tourism is basically Boti Falls, so for us as investors, it is taking a big toll on us. A journey from Koforidua to Boti, which used to take 20 minutes, now takes over one and a half hours.”
