Demi Lovato completed another stint in rehab as 2021 came to a close, three years after their near-fatal drug overdose from heroin laced with fentanyl.
A source close to the former Disney Channel star confirmed that the singer is home and ‘doing well’ after quietly finishing another return to rehab, the New York Post reported.
Demi, who uses the pronouns they/them, recently spent some time at a rehabilitation center in Utah to assist them in becoming sober, the source said.
The non-binary celebrity announced they will officially become ‘sober sober’ last month.
After previously taking a ‘California sober’ approach to recover from their past drug and alcohol abuse, the 29-year-old singer revealed they will no longer drink alcohol or smoke marijuana in moderation.
‘I no longer support my ‘California sober’ ways,’ Demi wrote on their Instagram Story in December. ‘Sober sober is the only way to be.’

In March, Demi revealed that they were just minutes away from death when their assistant found them on the night of their overdose back in 2018, telling CBS Sunday Morning that ‘if no one had found her, she wouldn’t be here’.
The traumatic overdose left them legally blind and with brain damage after suffering a heart attack and three strokes while in the hospital.
Fans began speculating that the Heart Attack singer had checked into a rehab center after investigating the background of a video the celebrity shared on Christmas Eve.
The singer-songwriter showed off their elegantly made up face and fresh buzzcut in a short closeup boomerang. They flashed a winning smile and tilted their head to the side to give a better view of the new haircut.
The speculation continued after Demi’s older sister Dallas Lovato posted a TikTok video on December 26 showing the Camp Rock star being reunited with their sisters.
‘When you get exactly what you wished for on Christmas… your sister,’ Dallas, 33, wrote over the sweet video posted on December
‘I tricked you, I’m sorry,’ Demi said as they hugged their younger sister Madison De La Garza, 20. ‘Bitch,’ Madison joked as the two siblings laughed.
When asked by a producer of their YouTube documentary, Dancing With the Devil whether they were ‘entirely sober,’ Demi said they still smoke weed and drinking in’ after struggling to come to terms with the idea that they might never be able to ‘get some relief’ from a substance again.

‘I’ve learned that shutting the door on things makes me want to open the door even more,’ they explained. ‘I’ve learned that it doesn’t work for me to say, ‘I’m never going to do this again.’
‘I’ve really struggled with this. I know I’m done with the stuff that’s going to kill me. But I wish that I could get some relief, maybe through weed or something. And telling myself that I can never have a drink or smoke marijuana, I feel like that’s setting myself up for failure, because I am such a black and white thinker.
‘I had had it drilled into my head for so many years that one drink was equivalent to a crack pipe. I’ve been hesitant to share until now that I’ve been smoking weed and drinking in moderation.’
Demi admitted that they grappled with how and when to share this information with the world for a number of reasons – the first being that they didn’t want people to ‘criticize’ them for the decision, after being held as the ‘poster child of sobriety’ in the years after their overdose.
‘I also don’t want people to hear that and think that they can just go out and try having a drink or smoking a joint because it isn’t for everybody,’ they continued.
‘Recovery isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. And you shouldn’t be forced to get sober if you’re not ready. You shouldn’t get sober for other people. You have to do it for yourself.’
Dancing With The Devil, which premiered just ahead of Lovato’s album of the same name, aired on YouTube on March 23rd
‘When they found me, I was naked, blue. I was literally left for dead after he took advantage of me,’ Demi said in their documentary sharing how their drug dealer sexually assaulted them
Those closest to Demi confessed that they have varying opinions about their decision – with their manager, Scooter Braun, confessing that he ‘doesn’t truly agree’ with the idea of consuming substances in ‘moderation.’
‘Demi knows the whole moderation thing is not something I truly agree with,’ he admits. ‘What I’ve learned with addiction is if I push her to do what I want, I push her away. I can’t control her. What I can do is be a friend and hope that she’s right.’
Their former assistant, Jordan Jackson – the person who found Demi after their overdose and made the 911 call – also confessed it scared her when her boss was not completely sober.
Other sober stars, like singer Elton John, who has been sober for over three decades, voiced skepticism in the ‘California sober’ lifestyle.
‘Moderation doesn’t work,’ he said. ‘Sorry. If you drink you’re going to drink more. If you take a pill you’re going to take another one. You either do it or you don’t.’
He added: ‘The great thing about Demi is that she has opened up about her addictions and her problems and the stress and the pressure of fame at such an early age, and a lot of people are afraid to open up about it.
‘I feel once you open up about it, you get the monkey off your back and you come out in the open.

‘It doesn’t mean to say you’re cured, because you never will be. Addiction is a lifelong thing. But you can have the most fantastic life. I’ve been sober 30 years, I’ve had the most incredible things happen to me. And I’m hoping that she does, too, because she’s such a great girl.’
Demi began their journey towards sobriety after their assistant found them on the edge of death after being given heroine laced with fentanyl and then sexually assaulted by their drug dealer.
‘When they found me, I was naked, blue. I was literally left for dead after he took advantage of me,’ they said in their documentary.
They tells how hospital staff asked them afterwards if the encounter had been consensual. They said: ‘There was one flash that I had of him on top of me. I saw that flash and I said “yes”.
‘It wasn’t until a month after the overdose that I realized, “you weren’t in any state of mind to make a consensual decision”.’
Their overdose brought on a host of problems, including three strokes, a heart attack and organ failure, along with pneumonia, asphyxiation, brain damage and lasting vision problems that have made it impossible for them to drive.
They told how the overdose left with blind spots in their vision field, and how they could not see their sister during a bedside visit, TMZ reported.
‘It was interesting how fast I adapted,’ they said of the vision loss, according to the Times. ‘I didn’t leave myself time to really feel sad about it. I just was like, “How do I fix it?”‘
Demi’s newest project has been their Peacock TV show, Unidentified With Demi Lovato which ‘brings viewers on a road trip in search of definitive answers to some of the biggest questions about extraterrestrial life’ with the celebrity.
In a recent viral clip of the show, found themselves singing to an appreciative apparition while exploring paranormal disturbances for the show.
Demi’s impromptu performance came as they paid a visit to abandoned Arizona town Vulture City – said to be the source of numerous ghostly disturbances – with close friend Matthew Scott and paranormal investigator Chris Smith.
Entering a dilapidated former brothel, the trio stumbled across Carmen, a ghost with distinctly feminist leanings and a lingering grudge against men after being mistreated by the opposite sex in life.

Somehow managing to communicate with a technologically savvy Carmen through an EMF detector – a piece of equipment that emits a sharp, high-pitched noise whenever paranormal contact is made – the group engaged in an unlikely discourse.
Encouraged by Scott and Smith, who waited outside the room, Lovato proceeded to empower Carmen by singing an acapella rendition of their 2011 single, Skyscraper.
Upon finishing a verse from the track – which includes lyrics about ‘staying strong and believing in oneself’ – the detector emitted three short bursts, indicating a positive response from Carmen.
Evidently thrilled, Lovato said: ‘That’s the coolest standing ovation I’ve ever had.’
