A fresh legal battle has erupted within the family of the late Ghanaian music icon, Daddy Lumba, as his immediate relatives have filed a lawsuit against Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, accusing him of sidelining them in funeral arrangements and mismanaging memorial funds.

The plaintiffs Obaapanin Afia Adomah, Robert Gyamfi (Wofa Yaw Poku), Georgina Gyamfi, Ernestina Fosuh, and Nana Afia Kobi have petitioned the court for an interlocutory injunction to halt preparations for the musician’s funeral.

According to documents filed before the court, the family alleges that after Daddy Lumba’s passing, Kofi Owusu, the head of the Ekuona Royal Family of Nsuta and Parkoso, unilaterally formed a funeral committee without consulting them.

The plaintiffs say they only became aware of several major decisions after they had already been made.

The situation reportedly escalated to the point where the family sought intervention from the Manhyia Palace.

They claim the Palace advised the respondent to cease making unilateral decisions regarding the funeral and to work in collaboration with the immediate family.

In addition to concerns over funeral arrangements, the plaintiffs accuse Kofi Owusu of withdrawing money from a memorial account without their permission.

They state that all donations received during the one-week celebration at Independence Square were deposited into a CAL Bank account under the name “Daddy Lumba Memorial Foundation LBG,” but claim they were neither consulted nor informed about subsequent transactions.

The lawsuit seeks to ensure transparency in the planning of Daddy Lumba’s final rites and proper management of all funds linked to his memorial activities.

The court is expected to rule on the request for an injunction as the case progresse
