Convention People’s Party pulls out of Ejisu by-election

Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa-Sarpong

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has announced its decision not to participate in the pending by-election at Ejisu, scheduled for April 30, 2024.

This decision was reached after a meeting convened by the regional executives, to assess the party’s prospects in the by-election and to discuss strategies for organizational restructuring.

In an official letter addressed to the regional director of the Electoral Commission (EC), the CPP unequivocally stated that it will not field any candidate for the Ejisu by-election.

The letter, signed by the regional chairman, emphasized that no individual will be permitted to contest under the banner of the CPP in this electoral contest.

“I have been directed by the regional chairman to officially inform your office that the CPP is not interested and will not contest in the upcoming by-election in Ejisu. Hence, no one is allowed to contest in the name or on behalf of the CPP in the by-election in Ejisu,” the CPP letter stated.

Following this development, 5 aspirants will now be contesting the upcoming Ejisu by-election scheduled for Tuesday, April 30.

Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate, secured the number two spot.

Former MP, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who is running as an independent candidate, will be number four on the ballot, while Beatrice Boakye, representing the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), will appear third.

The remaining two positions on the ballot are held by Gabriel Agyemang Joseph and Joseph Attakora, both running as independent candidates and designated as numbers five and six, respectively.
