Conference On Role Of Queen Mothers In National Development Held | Social


The Eastern Regional Queen Mothers Association had a conference to deliberate on the role of Queen Mothers in community development and how they can step up their game in assisting development within their traditional jurisdiction.

Speaking at the Conference which brought together Queen Mothers from the Eastern region, the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso traditional area, Ogyeahohuor Yaw Gyebi said Queen Mothers are clothed with the authority to nominate the next Chief whenever vacancy occurs, providing wise counsel to the chiefs and his elders, rallying all women together, keeping an eye on social conditions within the society and promoting peace and development. He also pointed out that, the Queen Mothers are expected to be role models and provide leadership for their young ladies in the area of education, hygiene and many more.

The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Margaret Nsiah Asamoah also added that Queen Mothers are doing well in terms promotion of girl-child education in the country and as a result of their collaborative effort, the country has been able to reach parity between boys and girls at the basic level which will soon be achieved at the secondary level as well.

The Mmawerehemea of Apirede Akuapem, Nana Tiaa Ampem Darkoa stated as well that, the conference was to encourage Queen Mothers to step up their efforts and be able to do what is expected of them in the communities.
