A much-loved newsreader remembered for her ‘grace and courage’ has died, surrounded by family, after a long battle with cancer.

The death of Yvette Mooney, 58, had devastated her family, friends and former colleagues at Channel Seven in Perth.

Ms Mooney presented the news for almost two decades in Western Australia, having joined the network in 1984.

Ms Mooney left Channel 7 in 2008 when she was diagnosed with cancer.

She battled against her illness for 16 years until her death, surrounded by family, on Saturday night.

Yvette Mooney (pictured), who has died aged 58, has been fondly remembered by colleagues as ‘the complete package’

Channel 7 anchor Susannah Carr has described Ms Mooney was ‘the complete package’.

‘She was a really good journalist [and] was a beautiful girl both inside and out,’ Ms Carr told 7NewsPerth.

‘[She was] beautiful to look at, beautiful voice but a really nice nature and lovely to be around.’

After starting her career as a reporter, Ms Mooney quickly moved to the news desk, presenting weekend bulletins.

In 1995, she became the first presenter of current affairs program Today Tonight, staying with the show for two years.

She later co-hosted news program Perth at Five alongside Basil Zempilas, Perth Now reported.

Channel 7 presenter Rick Ardon said Ms Mooney would be sorely missed.

‘Yvette always had a warmth about her and spoke really easily on camera,’ he said.

‘Some of us have to work at how we speak but with Yvette it just came naturally. She was a beautiful person and we’ll miss her.’

Simon Reeve also penned a heartwarmign tribute to his former colleague.

‘One of the most beautiful souls I’ve had the privilege of working with over the years,’ he wrote.

‘The very best of our home city and state. Our hearts are heavy tonight with the news of Yvette’s passing last night. She was devoid of ego, loved by all and an outstanding journalist and presenter. To her family and friends especially her bestie Debra Bishop another equally divine human being, all our love and strength.

‘My father Earl was your biggest fan Yvette. May you Rest In Peace now and thank you for the gifts and joy you gave to so many people.’

Her devastated family said Ms Mooney was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

‘Our hearts are broken but our precious angel Vetti is at peace after a long battle with cancer,’ the family said in a statement.

‘Her grace and courage were an inspiration. Yvette’s beautiful heart, kindness, wisdom and that gorgeous smile enriched our lives.’

Mr Zempilas said Ms Mooney was recently able to celebrate her son Andre’s 21st birthday with family.

‘(Celebrating) with the extended family was so special to her,’ he said.

Ms Mooney is survived by Andre and her husband Phil.
