Centennial Parklands, Sydney emergency: Child fighting for life after accident

A young boy has been critically injured after being kicked in the head by a horse along a walking track in one of Sydney‘s biggest parks in harrowing scenes. 

Four ambulance crews including a specialist medical team raced to the scene in Centennial Parklands shortly after 1pm on Wednesday following reports of a horror accident.

Harrowing photos show a five-year-old boy lying on a stretcher surrounded by paramedics treating his head injuries.

The boy was intubated following reports he was unconscious for up to five minutes.

He was rushed to Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick accompanied by a police escort shortly before 2pm.

A little boy suffering serious head injuries had to be intubated after being kicked by a horse.

Four ambulance crews raced to the scene on Wednesday to treat the critically injured boy

It’s understood a family had stopped to groom their horse when the boy with them was kicked in the head. 

Witnesses told the Daily Telegraph that the boy had wandered behind the horse when it kicked and threw him one metre through the air before he landed heavily.

‘It was pretty scary seeing all those ambulances and cops fly into the park,’ one told the publication.

‘You never want to see that…best wishes to that poor child.’

A heavy police presence cordoned off the Centennial Parklands Loop while the boy was treated at the scene and transported from the venue.

The boy is believed to be in a serious but stable condition, according to paramedics.

Police remain on scene in the parklands where a crime scene has been set up. 

NSW Police redirected inquiries about the incident to Ambulance NSW.

The parklands were packed with families at the time enjoying the final week of the school holidays.

The venue is a popular spot for horse riders with a track and dedicated equestrian centre and riding school located within the parklands.

Signs along the track urge  other users to look out for and give way to horse riders.
