Cape Coast Technical University urges gov’t to release their Staff Development Fund

The Vice-Chancellor of the Cape Coast Technical University, Prof. Joshua Danso Owusu-Sekyere, has stated that the school has not received its allocation of Staff Development Fund from the GETFUND for the past two years.

“We request GETFUND to release the fund, we have quite a number of staff on training, and we need it for their training”, he told the Deputy Education Minister, Gifty Twum Ampofo who graced the 18th congregation of the university.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, about 34 staff of the University are pursuing Doctoral studies within and outside Ghana, and eleven on MPhil programmes, who require money to support them in their training.

A total of 946 people graduated from various programmes.

Prof. Joshua Danso Owusu-Sekyere said the University currently has six schools, including the School of Applied Sciences and Technology, School of Applied Arts,  School of Built and Natural Environment, School of Engineering, School of Business and Management Studies and School of Graduate Studies.

“We have twelve BTech top-up programmes, fifteen four-year BTech programmes, twelve HND programmes and fifteen diploma programmes. I take this opportunity to thank our hard-working Deans, Heads of Department and all other faculties that have worked hard to develop new programmes to ensure that we remain relevant and provide a diverse range of programme offerings to prospective students”.

The Deputy Minister for Education, Gifty Twum Ampofo, noted that the government sees TVET as a crucial component to move the country forward.

“For that reason, a lot of investment has been made in the Technical Universities with state of the art TVET equipment”.

She hoped the government’s effort would help reduce the unemployment situation in the country and further reduce poverty.
