An eight-year-old child who was missing for eight months after disappearing from Washington State has been found safe in Missouri.

Breadson John was reported missing on 17 June last year after a welfare check at his Vancouver home.

Local police, with support from the FBI, were unable to find the child and family members reportedly did not provide further details of his whereabouts.

Today, FBI Seattle thanked sheriff’s deputies in Jasper County for helping find Breadson on Friday 17 February – exactly eight months since his disappearance.

It was not clear what the boy was doing in Missouri.

The FBI reportedly discovered that the boy had been taken to Jasper County back in August last year.

Until then, the FBI said he might visit, or could be staying with ties in, Hawaii, Arizona, Washington or the Federated States of Micronesia.

The Jasper County discovery led investigators to Missouri, where they found the boy, though it is not clear who he was with or why over the last eight months.

Breadson’s last known guardians were his grandparents, a Vancouver police statement said, and in December 2022, charges of Custodial Interference were filed against them.

They were considered persons of interest to the case.

The FBI said Breadson was born in Hawaii and speaks English and Chukeese, an Austronesian language spoken in parts of Micronesia.

Two weeks ago, two children who had been missing from Missouri for nearly a year were recovered.

The children, 11 and 12, were found with their non-custodial mother in a grocery store in Florida.

Kristi Gilley was arrested after police ran a vehicle tag check on her vehicle, which flagged she was a fugitive.

Police said the children would be reunited with family members in Missouri.
