Boy, 6, dies more than a month after intruder, 39, forced his way into Texas home and beat him in the head with a baseball bat

A six-year-old boy has died two months after an intruder forced his way into his Texas home and struck him with a baseball bat.

Jeremy Tang Diaz suffered severe injuries to his skull which caused his brain to swell after a suspect, named by police as Daniel Logan, broke into the family home in Georgetown and attacked the young boy on September.

Police allege Logan, 39, reportedly also hit his own 65-year-old mother, Cynthia, in her face before approaching a neighboring property where Jeremy lived, according to Williamson County affidavits.

Jeremy’s father Arturo Diaz, says his son was starting to show progress, but his condition quickly deteriorated on Monday night.

‘Last night, Jeremy started to have a neural storm that we hadn’t seen in almost 5 weeks, which was something new,’ he shared on GoFundMe

‘It was the worst storm we had seen and it came out of no where. It was almost 6 hours of hell on earth – I can only imagine the torture he went through.

‘Early this morning I was checking him and noticed a pale face and eyes with no motion. Then his heart stopped.

‘They tried to resuscitate him, but it was not successful.

‘He fought for over 60 days and was improving, but at the end, the odds seemed against him and he gave up the ghost.’

The family thanked the community for supporting Jeremy and them through this tough time.

‘I was there when he took his first breath and saw him take his last – no parent should see their children buried before them,’ he said.

Logan has been charged with injury to a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a family member, both of which are first-degree felonies.

His mom Cynthia suffered a broken tooth, facial laceration and periorbital edema of her left eye.

Logan’s wife told a detective who first arrived at the scene on Rock Mill Loop in Georgetown that she woke up to loud banging noises in the early morning of the attack, according to the Austin American Statesman.

His wife saw a massive hole in their picket fence that the pair shared with Jeremy’s parents and their neighbor’s back patio door glass shattered.

The suspect’s mother told detectives in the hospital that she had chased after her son to the second floor of her neighbor’s house and saw Jeremy ‘slumped on the floor of an upstairs bedroom’.

Allegedly, Logan also confronted Jeremy’s father, Arturo and when Cynthia began to plead to let the family go, Logan swung the bat and struck her across the face.

Right at that moment, Logan’s wife saw her mother-in-law walking out of the neighbor’s back patio door, covered in blood and told her that ‘Daniel was killing everyone inside’ and to call 911.

Court documents do not clarify where Cynthia was when she allegedly saw Logan enter the neighbor’s house.

Arturo told USA Today: ‘One day, he just snapped. He came in and before I could disarm him, he had already hurt my son.’

Officials say the incident was a ‘random act’ and no specific motive existed.

Williamson County Sheriff Mike Gleason said he believed Logan was experiencing a mental health crisis.

According to USA Today, Logan was meant to stand trial on October 5 but was found incompetent. A mental health hearing is scheduled for November 28.

Arturo told KVUE when the attack happened: ‘I saw my 6-year-old laying in a pool of blood.

‘He was hit in the back of his head, shattered the back of his skull into pieces.’

The crowdfunding page for the family has raised $315,829 out of its $339,000 goal.
