Bizarre baton exchange stuns crowd at EL Wak Stadium

A bizarre video of Ghanaian high school athletes exchanging batons in a relay event at a high school athletics competition has caused a stir on social media.

In a video sighted by GhanaWeb, the event appears to be Women’s 4x400m relay held at the El Wak stadium in Accra, Ghana.

The athletes showed no sense of urgency in the race with some jogging while others foul their baton changeovers.

Many Ghanaians have expressed concerns about the organizers not ensuring that the games are competed at a high level.

The video comes on the back of Ghana’s 4x100m Men’s relay team getting disqualified at the 2024 Olympic Games over a baton changeover failure.

The disqualification was a result of a delayed third and final changeover from the third leg, Ibrahim Fuseini to the anchor leg, Joseph Paul Amoah, which happened outside the required zone.
