Chief Abdukareem Adebisi Bamdele Akande, born January 16, 1939, better known as Bisi Akande, is a Nigerian politician and former governor of Osun State, Nigeria.
Bisi Akande was elected governor of Osun State in the 1999 Osun State gubernatorial election, under the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) party.
Early Life and Education
Chief Adebisi Akande was born in Ila Orangun now the Osun Central Senatorial district.

Akande is the nephew of Chief Bola Ige. He grew up with his family in Orangun which is now the Osun Central Senatorial district.
He had his primary school education at Native Authority School, Oke Aloyin, lIa-Orangun and at Methodist School, Ode-Idanre.
Career
Akande got elected as governor of Osun State in 1999, running for the Alliance for Democracy (AD) party.
Alliance for Democracy (AD) party was formed as a political arm of the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation Afenifere.
After his tenure in office, Akande ran for re-election in 2003, but was beaten by Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
In September 2006, Akande’s AD faction merged with other opposition parties to form the Action Congress Party, which later changed their name to the Action Congress of Nigeria.
The party announced plans to merge with the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and a faction of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to form the All Progressives Congress (APC) in February 2013.
