Before your Imani, there was ‘day and night’ campaigning

President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe

Andy Owusu, the National Coordinator for the Bawumia Volunteers 2024 campaign (B24), has taken on the President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, over his mockery on social media about the newly formed B24 campaign group.

The ruling New Patriotic Party will on Friday unveil another campaign masterstroke to be chaired by the Minister for Education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

The Bawumia Volunteers for 2024, with active members numbering in the thousands, will work day and night campaigning actively in the nooks and crannies of the country.

However, the President of the Ghanaian-based think tank, in a Facebook post yesterday, asserted that the Vice President is mimicking the “24hr Economy” strategy of the opposition National Democratic Congress with the formation of the B24, which is expected to engage in active campaigning day and night ahead of the December 7 polls.

“The group with a huge membership in the thousands (1000) is designed to work in the nooks and crannies of the various constituencies. Day and overnight campaign activities, including dawn broadcasts, will characterize the campaign, which will be under the strict direction and instructions of the respective Members of Parliament until the NPP wins the general elections. Doc embraces the 24-hour ‘campaign’ economy at last,” Franklin Cudjoe said.

In response to Franklin Cudjoe, Andy Owusu reminded the IMANI Africa President about his limitations in the country’s political discourse, arguing that day and night campaigns, including dawn broadcasts, precede the formation of his think tank.

Franklin Cudjoe should know that this campaign strategy has been in existence since time immemorial. Adu Boahen, former Presidents JJ Rawlings, Prof. Evans Atta Mills, J.A. Kufuor, including the current President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and others used dawn broadcasting and engaged in morning, afternoon, evening, and night campaigns since the ushering in of the 4th Republic,” Andy replied.

Andy Owusu further argued that rather than seeking to give credit to the NDC, who are still struggling to explain to Ghanaians their 24hr Economy programme, the IMANI President should be humble enough to commend the Vice President and the NPP for being active in their campaign, unlike their opponents.

Franklin Cudjoe should rather give credit to the NPP and refrain from seeking to downplay the good initiative of the Vice President. He knows even the NDC, who are espousing the so-called 24hr Economy, couldn’t even think of engaging in all-round campaigning.”
