Two young boys have been killed in a horror crash in south-west Sydney, as cops launch a major manhunt for two others who fled the scene.

A grey Ford sedan smashed into a tree and a power pole around 10.50am on Maxwell’s Avenue, Ashcroft, on Monday, with such force that the vehicle was torn in two.

Two passengers in the car, believed to be aged between 10 and 15, died at the scene.

Emergency services found their bodies strewn across the lawn of a property, over five metres from where the the main body of the car came to rest.

Police have launched a manhunt after witnesses revealed two people, believed to be the driver and the front-seat passenger, had fled the scene.

Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden, Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, said police believe the grey Ford sedan was travelling north on Maxwells Avenue ‘well-above’ the 50 kilometre-per-hour speed limit on the quiet residential street.

Assistant Commissioner McFadden said that witnesses would have been traumatised by the sight.

‘The absolute destruction that has taken place… and the loss of two young lives, being ejected from that vehicle,’ Mr McFadden told reporters.

‘Anyone who would have witnessed that crash would have no doubt been traumatised by it.’

‘The car is in two pieces – one part is still wrapped around the tree and the other half on the doorstep of the house,’ Helen El-cheikh said on Facebook.

‘On arrival, officers attached to Liverpool Police Area Command were told a grey sedan crashed into a tree and a power pole, before two people allegedly exited the vehicle and ran from the scene,’ an NSW Police spokesperson said.

‘Two passengers of the vehicle – two boys – died at the scene. They are yet to be formally identified but are both believed to be aged between 10 and 15.’

The two victims are yet to be formally identified. There are no other reports of injuries or vehicles involved.

Assistant Commissioner McFadden said police did not believe the car was stolen.

‘We believe the vehicle has some connection to the people inside the car,’ he said.

A trail bike was also seen driving in the street around the same time as the crash.

Police called for the driver of that vehicle to come forward.

Helicopter crews and the dog squad are searching for the two boys who fled.

A crime scene has been established and the road is closed in both directions.

Anyone with information into the incident or dashcam footage is urged to call police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
