Armed police arrest alleged knifeman who ‘took terrified staff HOSTAGE’ at Bristol petrol station

  • Dramatic scenes unfolded this morning in the south of Bristol in the south west
  • Police were called to the scene after a knifeman went into the Esso garage
  • Staff were currently holed up in a safe room and are in contact with officers










Police have ended a siege with an arrest after a knifeman took staff at an Esso petrol station hostage in Bristol.

He got inside the shop of the petrol station while workers were uninjured in a safe room.

Police surrounded the premises with armed officers as they resolved the incident.

They were in contact with the terrified staff unable to get out of their hiding place.

A man, who cannot be named or pictured, was arrested by police at the garage this morning

He got inside the shop of the petrol station while workers were uninjured in a safe room

One person has been taken to hospital, but they are not thought to have been seriously hurt. 

One witness who did not want to be named, said he witnessed the end of the armed standoff.

He described seeing loud flashes before cops brought a man outside and away from the staff.

He was placed in an ambulance before being bundled into the back of a police van.

The eyewitness said: “I was coming into work and noticed the road was closed.

“He was in there for hours, not sure what he had but think it was a knife. 

“Literally a load of armed police stormed in with kind of stun grenades and carried him out. 

“I think one person was stabbed.” 

Avon and Somerset Police said: ‘ We have detained a man in connection with an incident at a petrol station on Hengrove Way this morning.

‘Investigations at the scene continue.’
