Are you a lawyer? – Guardiola clashes with La Liga president over Man. City’s 115 charges case

Pep Guardiola and Javier Tebas

Manchester City head coach, Pep Guardiola, has criticised La Liga President Javier Tebas for his comments regarding the club’s 115 Financial Fair Play (FFP) charges.

In an interview, Tebas claimed that Manchester City should be sanctioned by the Premier League for failing to comply with FFP regulations designed to control club spending.

Tebas mentioned that, based on his discussions with other Premier League clubs, most believe City should be punished for breaching fair play rules.

“I have spoken with many Premier League clubs and most of them understand that City should be sanctioned,” Tebas said, as shared by football expert Fabrizio Romano on X.

In response, Guardiola questioned Tebas’ authority to make such claims, asking if he is a lawyer qualified to determine the club’s guilt.

He urged the La Liga president to wait for the Independent Commission to decide the case instead of making premature judgments.

“I don’t know if Javier Tebas is a lawyer, or if all Premier League teams are lawyers. So wait! It happened with UEFA…,” Guardiola said.

Meanwhile, the hearing into Manchester City’s 115 charges by the Premier League began on Monday, September 16, 2024.

The Independent Commission will hear the case, involving lawyers from both the Premier League and Manchester City.

If found guilty, City could face relegation or severe points deductions.
