AMA takes action against traders turning footbridge into market place

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has seized items belonging to some traders who have turned a footbridge at the Kaneshie market into a selling area.

According to the AMA, the move was part of processes to stop traders from operating on footbridges.

Some traders, however, expressed their displeasure with the action and cited that they do not have a place to mount their stands to sell, which has led to turning the footbridge into a selling point.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Accra has suspended a task force agent at the Kaneshie market for shirking his responsibilities.

This follows the task force agents’ inability to ensure traders do not use the shaky near-collapse footbridge as a selling point.

According to the mayor, that action is to send a message to all AMA employees not to shirk their responsibilities but instead, to be up to the task to achieve the goals and aspirations of the AMA.
