“All is not lost” – Samartex president on CAF Champions League exit

Samartex president Dr Richard Kwaku Duah Nsenkyire has rallied behind his team following their exit from the CAF Champions League after a 2-0 defeat to Raja Casablanca in Morocco.

The result saw the Timber Boys bow out of the competition with a 4-2 aggregate score, ending their debut campaign in Africa’s top club competition.

Speaking to his players after the match, Dr Nsenkyire praised their effort despite the disappointing outcome. He encouraged them to view the experience as a learning opportunity.

“It was not an easy game. We have lost, we are out of the competition. In football, it’s either you win, draw, or lose. Unfortunately, we have lost. I know you guys did your best, your best was not enough to take us through, but all is not lost,” he said.

Samartex, who drew 2-2 in the first leg in Accra, faced a challenging task in Morocco. Despite their determination, goals from Marouane Zila and Naoufel Zerhouni secured victory for Raja Casablanca and eliminated the Ghana Premier League champions from the tournament.

Dr Nsenkyire remains optimistic about the future, urging the team to stay focused on their domestic ambitions.

“It’s our first time in this competition, and I believe that as we progress, next season, if we win the league again, we will have learnt our lessons, learnt our mistakes, and we will have improved, stay competitive,” he added.

With their continental adventure over, Samartex will shift their focus back to the Ghana Premier League, where they have two outstanding matches against Bibiani Gold Stars and Medeama SC to defend their title.
