Alex Murdaugh demands second murder trial based on ‘newly discovered evidence’ as his attorneys prepare bombshell press conference

Disgraced legal scion Alex Murdaugh is seeking a second murder trial based on ‘newly discovered evidence’ that he claims wasn’t presented to a jury before his double-murder conviction in March.

Attorneys for the killer, 57, have announced a bombshell press conference for Tuesday afternoon, where they are set to lay out their strategy for overturning Murdaugh’s double life sentence for murdering his wife Maggie and son Paul.

Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin, who represented Murdaugh at his trial earlier this year, have not offered details about the new ‘evidence’ they plan to submit.

The move comes days after Murdaugh’s surviving son Buster broke his six-month silence on his family’s ordeal to insist he believes his father was wrongfully convicted.

The press conference is set to be held at the South Carolina State House grounds near the Court of Appeals, where Murdaugh’s attorneys filed their retrial request just over six months after they lost his murder case.

A jury convicted Murdaugh on March 2 for the fatal shootings of Maggie and Alex at their family hunting lodge in June 2021.

He was sentenced to two life sentences the day after his guilty verdict, and he has reportedly spent his time behind bars enjoying his ‘celebrity’ status as he responds to fan mail, plays video games and watches television.

But Murdaugh has also allegedly rubbed prison officials the wrong way with his behavior and flouting of inmate rules.

Officials in the McCormick Correctional Institution said Murdaugh had a disciplinary hearing last week after he violated the prison’s policies on giving news interviews and using another inmates PIN number to make a call behind bars.

Murdaugh first reportedly read information to Griffin , who recorded their exchange and provided it to the media. When prison guards found out, Murdaugh’s tablet and phone were revoked immediately, leading him to then steal another inmate’s PIN number to make further phone calls.

Following his disciplinary hearing, the disbarred attorney lost his telephone and canteen privilege’s for 30 days, according to Live5News

The Murdaugh family were a prominent legal dynasty in South Carolina. Following Alex’s arrest for the murders, it emerged that he stole millions from clients

The eldest son of the disgraced former South Carolina attorney told Fox Nation that he doesn’t think it’s possible that his father, 55, killed Maggie and Paul at their hunting estate Moselle in 2021

Last week, Murdaugh’s surviving son Buster, 26, broke his silence over six-months after the blockbuster trial to sensationally claim he doesn’t believe his father killed his brother and mother.

The eldest son of the disgraced South Carolina attorney told Fox Nation he doesn’t think it’s possible his dad, 55, killed Maggie and Paul at their hunting estate in 2021.

He said: ‘I think that I hold a very unique perspective that nobody else in that courtroom ever held. And I know the love that I have witnessed.’

Buster, 26, also had the finger pointed at him over the death of his schoolmate Stephen Smith, 19, in 2015 – as well as claims the pair had a gay relationship.

But in the interview he denied any links to it, adding: ‘I never had anything to do with his murder and I never had anything to do with him on a physical level of any regard.’

Buster has insisted on his father’s innocence. He is pictured exchanging a look with the convicted killer as he walks up to the witness stand at Colleton County courthouse in Walterboro in February 2023

Murdaugh’s trial earlier this year captured international attention as numerous shocking details emerged during the proceedings, including how Alex allegedly stole millions of dollars from his clients.

The high-profile trial was slammed by Buster as unfair, feeling the public outcry over the crimes may have swayed the outcome as he branded it a ’tilted table.’

He took aim at the police and judge, claiming they had a ‘crappy motive’ and he does not ‘believe it was fair’ that all 12 jurors found him guilty.

‘I was there for six weeks studying it, and I think it was a tilted table from the beginning,’ Buster said.

‘And I think, unfortunately, a lot of the jurors felt that way prior to when they had to deliberate.

‘It was predetermined in their minds prior to when they ever heard any shred of evidence that was given in that room.’

He believes that the jury ultimately found his father guilty of the shootings because of ‘everything they had the ability to read prior to the trial.’
