Akwa Ibom Councillor Abducted By Suspected Gunmen

Samuel Ben, the councillor representing Ward 6 Central in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, has been kidnapped by gunmen suspected of being kidnappers.

SP Odiko Macdon, a spokesman for the State Police Command, confirmed the kidnapping on Tuesday, September 28, and stated the investigation is ongoing.

On Saturday, September 25 at around 8 p.m., the victim was kidnapped at Macdon’s gas station.

Mr Andrew Amiengheme, the Commissioner of Police, has requested an investigation into the event, which Macdon termed as “very unfortunate and unacceptable.”

“We have received preliminary report about the incident and we are working on it. As I speak, a discreet investigation is on-going, so I cannot deny the fact that we have that information at hand. A lot is being done already and in no distance time, I think he will be freed,” the PPRO stated.

“I don’t want to prompt the outcome of the investigation and efforts made by the police to ensure the victim is freed,’’ Macdon said.

The police, according to Macdon, will ensure that the offenders are brought to justice.

A family source who spoke on the condition of anonymity stated the councillor was kidnapped while taking stock of his gasoline station’s business.

“The wife and the councillor came to take stock of the account and to take some money home when the incident happened,’’ the source told NAN.

The source added that his wife was locking the office door while he took some money to the car.

“As this was happening, the gunmen entered the fuel station and abducted the councillor,’’ the family source added.
