Akufo-Addo’s lavish jet life ‘absolute’ grounds for impeachment – Okudzeto Ablakwa ‘hints’

Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s lavish lifestyle of chartering expensive private jets for his travels instead of using the already available presidential jet is enough grounds for him to be impeached.

According to him, how the President uses state resources to satisfy his lavish lifestyle is illegal and a sign of disrespect to the people of the Republic.

When asked in an interview with TV XYZ if the President’s act is enough for him to be impeached, Mr Okudzeto responded, “absolutely”.

“Countries that have high standard are able to impeach their leaders when they do things which are not even a quarter of what Nana Addo has done to waste Ghanaians money that way”, he said in the interview monitored by MyNewsGH.com.

Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa over the week revealed Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo blew an amount of $ 14,000 per hour for hiring a private jet for his trip to Germany and England.

In a Facebook post, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu revealed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has again blown Ghc3.46 million on a private jet on his recent trips to Germany and England.

“Using the conservative rate of US$14,000 per hour, the two trips to the UK and Germany which require some 28 hours of travel distance in and out plus an additional 13 hours of pick up and drop off time, the taxpayer has been burdened again to the colossal tune of US$574,000.00. At the current exchange rate, that is a staggering 3.46million Ghana Cedis.” Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa stated.

“In total, the president’s recent trips amount to the colossal US$574,000.00”, he added.

This is not the first time President Akufo-Addo has hired a luxurious jet for his trips abroad.

In May 2021, he spent over GHC 2.4 million on jets, according to the North Tongu MP, Mr Ablakwa.
