Deputy Defense Minister Kofi Amankwaa Manu

Deputy Defense Minister Kofi Amankwaa Manu has assured that the ongoing Afari Military Hospital project will be ready for use, commissioned and operational within four months.

Speaking on Akoma FM‘s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma Monday, September 6, the Deputy Defense Minister explained that although the project has suffered several setbacks, it will be completed by end of 2021.

Mr Amankwaa Manu, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency, told host of the show Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin that “several speculations making headlines that some hospital equipment have been abandoned is nothing but fabrications.”

The 500-bed capacity facility was initially planned to be sited at Tamale but was later relocated to Accra and then pushed to its current site at Afari in the Atwima Nwabiagya South district of the Ashanti Region.

Work on the Afari Military Hospital began in 2014 and was expected to be completed in 2016.

But due to tax exemption and other bureaucracies, the project stalled and works resumed after 2017.

Despite the drastic delays in meeting the project timelines, Mr Amankwaa Manu has assured the good people of Ashanti Region and Ghana that “the much-awaited Afari Military hospital will be ready by end of 2021”

“So, let’s all keep our fingers crossed and be hopeful that the health fortunes of Ashanti Region will turn around for good.”
